Do Loop

Humans are distinctly a social animal – we have built infrastructure, government and society around our inherent need to communicate, to understand and to be understood. We can also see that applying a layer of social engagement to things creates interest and excitement as evidenced by the current boom in social media adoption.

Do Loop utilizes widely prevalent SMS technology in order to create ad hoc loops of social activity around physical activity. A master user sets up a loop around an event, and loops his or her friends in. The master user can then view a list of participating and non-participating users and can use the technology to encourage those not participating to join in. The goal is to provide accountability and encouragement in order to create a social infrastructure that can enact physical activity in users.

FLEUR

FLEUR (Flower - LED - Email - Uninotification - Receptacle) is an ambient, calm answer to the discomfort of current email notification systems that uses an interface that recalls nature. FLEUR was designed for an assignment in Ubiquitous Computing for professor Alexis Lloyd as an effort to transform a screen-based interaction into a calm or ambient interaction. The system assigns different types of (fake) flowers to gmail labels and filters. When an email arrives within those labels, the flowers illuminate. FLEUR brings natural beauty and calming energy to an otherwise hectic and jarring system.

The Curiograph

When Lauren Redniss and the New York Public Library collaborated with Parsons students to create an exhibition website surrounding the release of her book and accompanying exhibition at the library, I teamed up with a fellow classmate to create an educational game. The game, now titled “Curiograph” allows users to create their own cyanotypes in a way that digitally resembles the method Redniss used whilst illustrating her book. The game is accessible by the general public and can be found on the exhibition website.

Allison & Eric’s wedding website

He likes beer; she likes champagne. He likes winter; she likes summer. He likes heavy metal; she likes hot pink. For two people (and their two cats) whose tastes differ wildly, creating a wedding website had to reflect their youthful and energetic personalities whilst maintaining clarity of information, design and concept.

Omnicompanion

Designed as a way to introduce BBDO’s summer interns to the rest of the agency, Omnicompanion fit within a larger program that combined the efforts of both the interns and the agency within which they were situated. The site features each of the interns alongside their biographical information and is categorized by agency department. The website was circulated both internally and externally by the agency and the interns.

Zombie Pets

A final project for several classes in Parson’s MFADT program, Zombie Pets is a flash application that allows users to fight one another using their pet avatar. A MySQL database stores the names and descriptions of your Zombie Pets so you can fight different people using the same pet. The game functions using PHP as an intermediary between the ActionScript, XML, and the MySQL database.

TweetMoon

A project for Jamie Kosoy’s Dynamic Interfaces class, Tweetmoon attempted to combine an ambient dataset such as the phase of the moon, and a social networking platform such as Twitter. When accessed, the site animates to show the percentage of the moon, and when the user clicks the button in the middle, the moon tweets its phase to @moonmanhattan.

MFA Student Showcase Poster

Each year, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston showcases student films from area schools. The poster was meant to be reflective of film canisters, rolled up and modernized in a way that woud intrigue an audience upon closer inspection. The posters were disseminated throughout Boston University.

Creative Cafe poster

Creative Cafe is a chance for advertising and public relations students to receive a portfolio critique by top agency executives in Boston. Each year a different theme is chosen by the chair of the advertising department. The theme for this poster was “Creative Hero” inspired by the popular video game Guitar Hero. The nameplate was generated in Illustrator and assembled with the characters and their new instruments - a portfolio, pencil and Apple laptop - in Photoshop.

Advertising Spring Break Poster

The poster was created in a campaign to recruit Seniors in the advertising department to join their professors on a trip to New York City over their spring break. The goal was to be appealing, informative and slightly irreverant. The posters were disseminated throughout the College of Communication.
